Big Brother and Big Sister Program
Our Mission Statement
Overview: Yad LeYatom’s Big Brother and Big Sister program is designed to provide children who have experienced the loss of one or both parents with the positive role models and emotional support they need to thrive. This program pairs children with caring and responsible mentors who engage them in enriching activities, offer guidance, and provide a stable, supportive presence in their lives. By expanding this program, we aim to reach more children in need and ensure they receive the encouragement and companionship necessary for their emotional and social development.
Imagine a young boy named David, who lost his father in the recent conflict. He is struggling with his schoolwork and feeling isolated and withdrawn. Through Yad LeYatom’s Big Brother and Big Sister program, David is paired with a mentor named Eli, a kind and patient college student.
Engaging Activities: Eli meets with David several times a week, helping him with his homework and introducing him to fun and educational activities. They play soccer together, visit museums, and work on art projects. Eli encourages David to pursue his interests and helps him improve his academic performance.
Emotional Support: David begins to open up to Eli, sharing his feelings and fears. Eli listens attentively and offers reassurance, helping David navigate his grief and build resilience. Through consistent support and positive interactions, David starts to regain his confidence and joy.
Family Involvement: Eli also engages with David’s family, inviting them to join in some activities and ensuring they feel involved in David’s progress. This strengthens the bond between David and his family and creates a supportive community around him.
Long-Term Benefits: As David continues in the program, he shows remarkable improvement in his schoolwork, social interactions, and emotional well-being. He feels valued and supported, knowing that Eli is there for him. The positive impact of the program extends beyond David, benefiting his family and community as well.
Future Outlook: With the expanded Big Brother and Big Sister program, more children like David will receive the support and mentorship they need to thrive. Generous donations ensure that these services are available to all children in need, providing them with the guidance, companionship, and encouragement necessary for their development.

Each child is thoughtfully paired with a big brother or big sister based on shared interests, personality, and needs, ensuring a meaningful and effective mentoring relationship.
